Episode Summary
Welcome to The Retiring Entrepreneur Podcast! In this episode, I interview Stephanie McCullough. Stephanie is the founder and CEO of Sofia Financial, an independent financial planning firm based in Berwyn, Pennsylvania. Whether her clients are single, married, divorced, or widowed, Stephanie’s goal as a financial advisor is to empower women to make wise financial decisions and reduce their money stress.
What’s unique about Stephanie, however, is the path that led her to become a financial advisor and entrepreneur. Indeed, with an undergraduate degree from Duke University and a master’s in international economics from Johns Hopkins, Stephanie’s background is nothing short of impressive. In fact, she began her career in government and international trade in Washington, DC. However, she eventually moved to the Philadelphia area with her husband where she began working with her father, who was also a financial advisor. Then, in 2011, Stephanie branched out on her own to found Sofia Financial.
Developing the Sofia Financial Brand
In this episode, Stephanie and I discuss the steps she took to build her brand, develop her voice, and appeal to women who may be intimidated by the idea of having important conversations about money. Moreover, Stephanie shares how she leverages content creation and digital marketing to attract her ideal clients online. Meanwhile, we also talk about how Stephanie plans to scale Sofia Financial so it can continue to grow and serve new clients without requiring more of her time.
In addition, Stephanie shares her new client onboarding process. And how it goes beyond discovery and document collection to truly understand her clients’ attitudes and beliefs toward money. She then uses this information to anticipate potential pitfalls in the financial plan her team ultimately develops for them.
Lastly, be sure to listen to the end. Here, Stephanie shares the most common retirement mistakes she sees women make. Additionally, she describes the unique financial challenges women face, especially later in life. So, whether you’re interested in hearing Stephanie’s perspective on financial planning or curious about how she developed her unique brand, I hope you enjoy this episode of The Retiring Entrepreneur Podcast with Stephanie McCullough of Sofia Financial (website).
